That is my favourite quote( I heard it first in NCISLA😂). It’s amazing how a lot of people want to justify or find reasons as to why a person was raped. Society especially in this country also seem to think that it’s always the victims fault.

You start hearing statements like ” what was she wearing?”, “Why did she go there?”, “Was she rude to him?” “Women are not supposed to be out late in the night” and so many more. And it makes me wonder why people still have such archaic mindset. A person who sexual harasses someone or forcefully sleeps with a man/woman is called a RAPIST. There is no need to sugarcoat or justify what they have done. Yes I agree that men get raped too but it is more common with women.

I saw the news about the girls who were raped and it just saddens my heart 😭

A Rapist is a Rapist!!! Something that you consider just five minutes of pleasure for you is several years of pain to the victims.

Effects of Rape

• Distrust: The victim will always have distrust for people mostly the opposite sex for years until something or someone changes her mind.
• Emotional Trauma: The woman will have to live with the pain all her life , especially if she didn’t tell anyone , then she has to suffer in secret and always remember this day as long as she lives
• Suicide: most people have committed suicide because they can’t deal with the shame or the stereotype that comes with getting rape (because like it or not most people still get judged for being a victim).

There are so many more effects that this causes and no matter the punishment given to the rapist, the victim still suffers for it. So please let’s all change our mindset or belief towards this, a woman wasn’t raped because she wore indecent clothes, went to the wrong place at the wrong time, said something she wasn’t supposed to say or drank something she wasn’t supposed to drink because to be honest, nothing can justify why a woman was raped.

Many victims have come out strong and made something of their life regardless of what they went through, if you are reading this and you are one of them know that you are a true hero and you are a source of inspiration to others because I know it can’t be easy.

How Do We Stop Rape?

The only way we can reduce this problem or eliminate it completely is by “Speaking Up” we all have to come together and voice out our opinions peacefully. The internet is a good way to spread the word but we don’t have to wait until we see another victim before we remember that this is an issue that needs to solved, a lot of people need to be morally aware of the consequences of their actions to people. So we should all speak up often.

Another way is to be there for your fellow women. If you see a girl or boy being mistreated or harassed in an ungodly way please speak up, help the person, report the case to the police, don’t just keep quiet and say “it’s none of your business” we are one and we have to come together as a nation to fight this problem.

In conclusion, we are family, irrespective of tribe, religion, beliefs or culture, so let’s act like one and stand up for what is right!!!
